Dr. Monika Umakantha is a Clinical Psychologist with around seven years of experience in clinical practice. She holds an Integrated M.Sc. in Clinical and Counselling Psychology from the Central University of Karnataka, an M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the Central University of Karnataka.
Dr. Monika has worked with children, adolescents, and adults presenting with a range of psychological concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety-spectrum disorders, and personality disorders. Her clinical training includes approaches such as Emotion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, allowing her to draw upon evidence-based interventions tailored to individual needs.
In her most recent role, Dr. Monika served as the Lead for Psychology Services at Sukoon Health, Bengaluru, where she led a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals and contributed to the delivery and development of psychological services. Her experience also includes student supervision, teaching, research, and mental health awareness initiatives.
Her professional and research interests lie particularly in understanding the interplay between culture, psychological processes, and clinical presentations. She has been actively involved in research projects and has delivered invited talks on psychological first aid, suicide prevention, post-incident care, and other mental health-related topics.
Dr. Monika is committed to integrating evidence-based clinical practice, research, and culturally sensitive mental healthcare. Her approach emphasises understanding individuals within their unique social and cultural contexts while providing thoughtful, collaborative, and meaningful psychological care.
